2019 Learn-to-Row Programs
No experience necessary!
Adult Learn-to-Row Program
Learning to row is a one-of-a-kind experience appropriate for anyone who is over the age of 18 and reasonably fit. You and your classmates will learn the basics of sculling (rowing) an 8-person or 4-person rowing shell. You will learn to row on the Susquehanna River, which has been described as world-class rowing water. You will learn the fundamentals of rowing from highly skilled but easy-going coaches who want to share their sport with you.
The 1st LTR Class will run from June 3 - June 20 on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings from 6pm–8pm for a total of 9 sessions.
The 2nd LTR Class will run from June 24 - July 15 on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings from 6pm–8pm for a total of 9 sessions.
The first two sessions of each class will be on land so that participants can learn about safety, the rowing stroke, and boat handling. These two sessions are mandatory (though if you have a conflict you may contact Quica or Dagny, the Learn To Row coordinators, email@example.com)
The remaining 7 sessions are on the water, weather permitting. To complete the program, you must attend 3 or more of the remaining sessions, for a total of at least 5 sessions. Participants are stongly encouraged to attend as many sessions as possible.
Once the Learn To Row program has ended, participants who have met the minimum attendance requirements can then row with the club members for the remainder of the rowing season, which ends on September 27, 2019. The club offers coached rows on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings from 6pm–8pm.
The fee for Learn To Row is $200 per person (plus $9.75 admin fee to pay for club US Rowing Liability Insurance - see below). This fee covers 9 days of coaching dedicated to teaching you to row and the chance to row with the club for free for the remainder of the seasons. The Learn To Row fee is less than half of the normal yearly membership fee for the Central Pennsylvania Rowing Association.
Each participant must sign a waiver indicating that you can swim 50 yards in a competent manner and tread water for at least 5 minutes. Additionally, you must be able to grab onto and float with a floatation device. Otherwise, you must agree to wear an approved life jacket at all times while on the water or on the CPRA dock.
Once you are signed up, a welcome email with all the details will be sent to you.
