The Central Pennsylvania Rowing Association (CPRA) was formed in 1989 by a loosely-connected group of people who shared an interest in rowing or a curiosity about rowing and a love of the river. Since then, CPRA has evolved, and in 2004, it received federal tax-exempt status as a 501(c)3 charitable and educational organization, whose mission is to educate and provide opportunities for the youth and general public to enjoy the health benefits of rowing recreationally, as well as competitively. The club rows on the beautiful Susquehanna River. We offer a Learn To Row program each summer, and some members of the club have competed successfully at various regattas in and around Pennsylvania.

Why Row?

Because rowing is FUN! But rowing offers more than fun: It is a full-body fitness sport—a complete physical and mental conditioning program. And rowing complements other exercises that you may be doing, since it works both lower and upper body muscles. You are never too old to learn to row, a sport that you can enjoy for the rest of your life. If you don’t know how to row, we have great instructors on staff to teach you. Each season we offer Learn-to-Row sessions for adults and for youth.

As you row, you can renew your spirit, "far from the madding crowd," savoring the fresh air, the ever-changing water, and wildlife along the shore of the beautiful Susquehanna River. Rowing is also a great way to meet new people. CPRA members range from their 20s to their 60s, come from a wide variety of backgrounds, and have all sorts of interests and life experiences—but they all love rowing.

Whether you’re looking for great exercise, a way to enjoy the beautiful Susquehanna River scenery, a chance to test your mettle in all-out racing, or some wonderful new friends, CPRA is the place for you. Rowing is in our name and fun is our game! We are the Central Pennsylvania Rowing AssociationC’mon—join the fun!

CPRA offers rowing opportunities for:

New Adult Rowers

Each summer, CPRA offers a 5-week Learn-to-Row (LTR) program for adults (19+) who wish to learn how to row. No experience is necessary. There will be 3 rowing opportunities for LTR participants each week (for a total of 15 sessions). LTR participants who successfully attend at least 5 sessions can continue to row with CPRA for the remainder of the season (at no extra cost!).

Experienced Adult Rowers

CPRA offers rowing opportunities for novice to advanced rowers. There are multiple coached rowing sessions throughout the week. Members are able to use club boats or store private boats in the boat house

New Youth Rowers

CPRA offers a Youth Learn-to-Row (LTR) program to introduce the fundamentals of rowing in a co-ed setting for youth ages 13 through 18 years old.  This 2-week LTR program is FREE (subsidized with grant and organizational funding). Youth participants can then continue in the experienced Youth program.

Experienced Youth Rowers

CPRA offers a summer Youth rowing program for those youth who have already experienced rowing. This program will refine your skills and culminate in participation in either a sprint race (summer) and/or a head race (fall) regatta.
